Technical Update 006: Visible Disconnect with Ground Position

Trayer’s patented Tri-Phase Visible Disconnect System is now available with a ground position. The tri-phase visible disconnect is positioned in front of a large viewing window on the switch tank surface to provide a clear view of all three contacts in the closed, open and grounded position. The newly designed padlock provisions provide the utility with many safety options. Two separate padlock provisions allow for a supervisor’s padlock to be installed to prevent the device from being grounded without first removing that padlock. The second padlock provision allows an operator to attach their lock to the device handle in the open or grounded position. It provides quick, reliable and truly visible 3-phase contact verification; and now grounding, while eliminating the potential for contamination to the elbow bushing interface.

Technical Update 005: 3000 Series Three-Phase VFI

Based on our original VFI design introduced in 1980, our 3000 Series three-phase vacuum fault interrupters take this patented and field-proven design and incorporate the latest advancements of vacuum technology and microprocessor-based relays. The Trayer 3805/3815 Series represents our double-side access padmounted units combining switch and vacuum fault interrupters in standard common configurations such as 9’s, 11’s, and 12’s. The footprint and bushing design of the 15kV / 25kV units are sized to make an easy retrofit conversion from live front air-insulated switchgear to sealed dead front using the existing box or pad installation. Available in maintenance-free liquid or SF6-insulated designs.

Technical Update 004: High Speed Automatic Transfer System
Trayer’s newest Auto Transfer System is available in two distinct designs, offering a fast transfer of 10 cycles or customer-selected 3 or more seconds. These units are available with 3 or 4 ways, 2 SOURCE ways, and 1 or 2 VFI-protected ways. The transfer logic and overcurrent protection for tap VFIs is through the use of a Schweitzer 451 protection automation platform relay. Trayer padmount and submersible equipment is constructed of 304 stainless steel and built watertight for use in the harshest of environments.

Technical Update 003: Trayer & Maysteel Relay Control Combination
The Trayer & Maysteel Relay Control Combination provides easy coordination and various options for customers that have single-phase and three-phase loads throughout their system. Each relay comes complete with 23 standard curves installed and utilizes dip switches for curve selection. An RS232 data port provides a way to interrogate the relay to see the magnitude of the last fault and to view the fault counter. There is a manual trip button for three-phase manual tripping of the VFIs. A last trip LED indicator for A-phase, B-phase, C-phase or manual trip can be viewed when 12-24 volt external power is supplied to the relay. The different models below are available to meet the needs of varying systems. Please download the information sheet for more details.

Technical Update 002: 4000 Series Single-Phase VFI

The Trayer 4000 Series Single-Phase Vacuum Fault Interrupters are devices controlled by Maysteel over-current microprocessor relays powered by current transformers.   This combination offers single-phase load protection and easy coordination with other system protection devices.   Each of the VFI mechanisms are independent, but can be set through the relay to trip all three phases per way. This feature provides options for customers that have single-phase and three-phase loads throughout their system.   The Trayer 4000 Series VFIs are stainless steel and watertight, for zero-maintenance use in the harshest environments.   Available in SF6 gas and liquid insulation.

Technical Update 001: Tri-Phase Visible Disconnect

The Tri-Phase Visible Disconnect is a three-phase knife blade switch in series with a vacuum load break switch. The three-phase knife blade switch is positioned in front of a large viewing window on the switch tank surface to provide a clear view of three open contacts, and thus, a visible open circuit. This innovative use of two devices in series facilitates the maintenance-free design of vacuum load break switching and eliminates the need to remove 600 amp elbows for testing and/or isolating cables. Overall labor costs and outage times can be greatly reduced, while increasing the overall reliability of the entire circuit.
